STEPS TO ROOT YOUR GALAXY Y:
1. Download the file HERE: (update.zip) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18811169&postcount=16
2. Place the update.zip file directly to your sd card (don't place it in any folder)
3. Turn OFF your phone
4. Switch ON your phone with the following combinations: VOLUME UP+HOME KEY+POWER BUTTON TOGETHER
5. You should be directed to the android recovery menu, once you are there, use volume up and down buttons to move while home key to enter
6. Go to APPLY UPDATE FROM SD CARD, then find the UPDATE.zip
7. Press HOME KEY to SELECT IT
8. WAIT FOR IT TO BE FINISHED
9. Select REBOOT SYSTEM NOW
10. Go to the APP DRAWER or the MENU BUTTON
11. You should see an app called SUPERUSER.... and VOILA!!!! Your SGY is now rooted!!!
